Customer Reviews

Five ways Starbucks does it better, 29 Mar 2007
Reviewer: Rolf Dobelli (Luzern Switzerland) - See all my reviews

Starbucks executives claim that the company’s customer-friendly, socially responsible policies amount to a new business model, and author Joseph A. Michelli generally agrees. Certainly the company has been innovative and wildly successful. Unfortunately, Michelli’s decaffeinated, artificially sweetened account of Starbuck’s retailing prowess often reads as though the writer is giving a boost to the company’s PR department - and the book cover design doesn’t help, with its Starbucks signature colors, logo (dutifully trademarked, as is every mention of every cup of FrappucinoÂŽ) and inset of the brown, corrugated paper the company uses for cupholders. Some of Michelli’s examples of Starbucks‘ caring policies are banal - opening early or providing a free cup of tea are not major innovations, nor are they transferable examples. Yet the book usefully illustrates how far good service and community relations can go. Each chapter provides a readers’ guide and sidebars about how to apply Starbucks principles to your business. We recommend sipping it for applicable tips and interesting stories.

An insight into some aspirations of Starbucks’ management team, 22 Nov 2006
Reviewer: CS (UK) - See all my reviews
This book is a good read and is best described as a statement of the company’s aspirations. It focuses mainly on the good work that the company does and its contribution to society. I guess that this is how the author gained access to the senior management? An easy read about a high street brand.

A Personalized Coffee Mug Is A Great Idea For An Original Gift

Everyone Drinks From A Personalized Coffee Mug At Some Point!

If you are looking for something different and are in need of a simple and affordable gift idea for a coworker, friend, or family member, try a personalized coffee mug. Instead of settling for “World’s Best Dad,” or “Class of ’89,” here are some fresh ideas for you to use. Nowadays anything is possible to have put on your personalized coffee mug. You can even get audio recordings put on it and every time you lift the mug it ‘talks’ to you!

Photo Of A Loved One

We’ve all seen the kiosk at the mall that will snap a picture of you and immortalize it on a mug, which is a great idea in theory until your mug shot truly looks like a mugshot. Why not use that picture of you and your friend giggling over margaritas at your last birthday party instead? Give a personalized coffee mug that can also serve as a memory holder. With a little planning, getting an existing picture on a mug is just as easy, and actually more convenient, than trekking down to the kiosk at the mall. You can upload pictures right from your computer, and with a few simple clicks your personalized coffee mug is on its way to you. You can have baby photos and pictures of that special occasion to keep the memories alive.

Inspiring Words

If a picture isn’t appropriate for the recipient of your personalized coffee mug, try some textual enlightenment instead. Don’t worry about finding the perfect quote, why not just find a really great word instead? Be creative. Use a word to describe your favorite attribute of the recipient, like “fluidity,” or something nice you wish for them, like “ovation.”

Original Artwork

Another option for you personalized coffee mug is original artwork. You don’t have to be Picasso, just have fun. You can find kits at places like craft stores that allow you to draw or paint your own artwork and insert it into a tumbler-style coffee mug. This is a great option if the personalized coffee mug is a gift from a child, as it’s a project they can complete independently with many chances to finalize the artwork before it’s inserted into the personalized coffee mug.

If you prefer a slightly more refined finished product in this category, try going to a pottery studio, where you can still paint a personalized coffee mug, but the finished product will be professionally fired in a kiln. You can choose to paint a stenciled design, or choose a plain mug to have complete design freedom. As I said before, anything is possible, all you need to do is a bit of research and shop around to get the best price.
